National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai, a technical arm of The Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India, is functioning with the broad objective of promoting technology development in various activities related to Ocean Engineering and Ocean Resource Exploitation. The major areas of activity of the Institute are Ocean Energy and Fresh Water, Deep Sea Technologies and Ocean Mining, Coastal and Environmental Engineering, Ocean Observation Systems, Submersibles and Gas Hydrates, Marine Sensors and Electronics and Ocean Science and Technology for Islands. Besides, NIOT manages operational programme such as National Data Buoy Programme, ships and coastal vessels to cater to the needs of various research activities.

The Institute invites applications from talented and motivated candidates to work in the challenging area of Ocean Technology against the Regular/Contract posts :

Candidates with excellent academic background, experience in relevant areas, specialization in one or more of the areas mentioned under are required to apply.

SCIENTIST - E - No. of Post - 1 (Regular)
Pay Band : PB-4; 37,400 – 67,000 + Grade Pay 8,700
35 - 55 yrs. I class B.E./B.Tech. (Mechanical) with 12 yrs. experience, or I class B.E./B.Tech. (Mechanical) with I class M.E./M.Tech. with 10 yrs. experience, or I class B.E./B.Tech. (Mechanical) with I class M.E./M.Tech. with Ph.D. in Engg./Technology with 8yrs. experience

Experience : Mechanical design and analysis of structures, with familiarity in use and interpretation using software design tools like CATIA, Pro E., Knowledge in design codes.
Desirable : Design of underwater systems, ship related systems, floating platforms, risers, other ocean engineering systems.

* NOTE : Experience in a discipline / area of work, wherever prescribed, shall be counted
after the date of acquiring the minimum prescribed qualifications for that post.

ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER - No. of Post - 1 (Regular)
Pay Band : PB-3 15,600 – 39,100 + Grade Pay 6,600
Below 55 yrs. 1 Graduates with Professional degrees like MBA / CA / ACWA / ACS / PGDM in Mgmt. / Finance / Admn. or equivalent, with 10 years of working experience in administration at supervisory level in Govt. / Semi-Govt. organization of which at least 5 years should be in the scale of Rs.8000-13500 or equivalent (pre-revised).

General Conditions:
The candidates are requested to note the following :

• The application should be sent in A4 size plain paper, as per the format enclosed as ANNEXURE.
• The appointment would be on regular basis. Pay and allowances will generally be as per Central Government rules, as applicable from time to time.
• The candidates should not have exceeded the maximum age limit specified above as on the last date of receipt of Applications. A maximum relaxation of 5 years in age is applicable to SC/ST and candidates working in Government of India / Autonomous organizations of GOI; 10 years in age is applicable to physically disabled persons and 3 years for OBC candidates. Relaxation will be given only on production of original caste certificate.
• Candidates working in NIOT are entitled for age relaxation as per NIOT rules and regulations. Age relaxation may be considered for general candidates in exceptionally deserving cases.
• Candidates who are in Government / autonomous Institutions and PSU should forward their applications only through proper channel. However, they may send advance copies so as to reach this office on or before due date.
• NIOT may fix suitable norms for shortlisting the applications depending upon the vacancies available and the area in which the vacancies exist.
• The Advt. No., Post No., Post Name and Discipline should be clearly indicated on the envelope.
• Out station candidates called for the Interview will be reimbursed with eligible fare by the shortest route from the place of duty / residence.
• Attested copies of certificates / testimonials should be enclosed along with the applications.
• The minimum qualifications / experience can be relaxed for candidates with exceptional and deserving cases.
• Reservation for SC / ST/ OBC / PH will be as per the Government of India rules and norms. The Physically handicapped candidates are required to produce medical certificates issued by the Competent Medical Authorities for the purpose of employment.
• For all Posts, the marine studies / ocean technology related experience will be an added advantage.
